An injector that has been reconditioned and refitted carrying the calibration code printed on it when it was new, which no longer describes what it now does. The code is not a part number — it is a measured record of that individual injector's flow, written into the module so it can correct each one's opening time.

Reconditioning changes the flow, so the old code becomes a lie the module believes. It commands a duration corrected for an injector that no longer exists, that cylinder receives the wrong quantity, and the result is a balance or correction fault with a mechanically perfect injector fitted. The fault survives every physical test, which is what makes it worth naming.

A reconditioned injector must arrive with a new code and that code must be programmed in. Two failure modes follow: a rebuilder who does not recalibrate and reprint, and a fitter who does not enter the new value. Read back the stored codes and compare them against what is printed on the injectors — a mismatch is the whole diagnosis and takes a minute, and note that the codes are position-specific, so injectors moved between cylinders need their codes moved with them.
