Aisin's small transverse six-speed — in the Fiat Tipo and Toro, and the second-generation Jeep Commander.
It is the small end of the family whose large end is the TF-80SC, and the catalogue's own rows print it as AW60T-6F25 — which collides on the eye with Ford's 6F35 and with Aisin's own AWF8F35, none of which are the same gearbox. Establishing which of the three is in front of you is worth doing before reading anything.
Its recurring complaint is behaviour rather than failure: a firm engagement when cold and a hesitation from rest, both of which respond to adaptation and a fluid service far more often than to parts.
Where genuine faults appear it is the valve body and its solenoids, presenting electrically — a gear refused, a limp mode, a code naming a solenoid — rather than by slipping. Nothing slips first, which is what separates it from clutch wear.
The fluid is Aisin's own specification and is not a generic ATF. As on every modern automatic here, a unit still on its original fill is the commonest version of every complaint above.
