Chevrolet Caprice
The full-size rear-drive saloon and estate on GM's B-body, and the last of a line that ended in 1996 — body-on-frame, live rear axle, small-block V8, and closer in layout to a light truck than to anything else Chevrolet was selling by then. That is the useful fact: the engines and transmissions are shared with the pickups and vans of the same years, so their material applies directly and there is far more of it. The LT1 in the later cars is the Corvette's engine in a milder state of tune, with the same optical distributor sitting behind the water pump — a location that makes a common failure an awkward job. Not to be confused with the Caprice PPV of 2011 onward, which is an Australian-built car with nothing in common but the name.
