Toyota Tercel
The small saloon below the Corolla, and the mechanical twin of the Paseo — same L50 platform, same 5E-FE, same gearboxes under a practical body instead of a coupé one, so the two pages describe one car between them. Simple by the standards of anything else in this catalogue: single-point and then multi-point injection, no variable valve timing, no turbocharger and very little that can go wrong electronically. That simplicity is the diagnostic point. A driveability complaint on one of these is far more often fuel, ignition or a vacuum leak than a sensor, and the number of places a fault can hide is small enough to work through systematically.
