Accelerator pedal obstructed or not returning
The accelerator pedal fouled so it does not return to rest. This is the dangerous direction of a pedal obstruction and it is why floor mat recalls exist — a pedal held down is unintended acceleration, and it must be treated seriously rather than as a code.
The module detects it as a pedal position that does not return to its learned rest, and where it also sees the brake applied it will cut torque, which is the protection working. A displaced overmat, a mat clipped on one side only, or an object in the footwell account for most of it. Press the pedal and let it go: it should snap back positively and stop solidly. Anything sluggish or springy is a finding, and the vehicle should not be driven until it is resolved.
Typically an easy fix. Often worth checking before paying anyone to look.
