Blown fuse supplying the regulator circuit
The fuse feeding a fuel pressure or volume regulator, blown so the regulator receives no power at all. The module commands it, sees no response, and reports the regulator — which is in perfect condition behind a dead supply.
A blown fuse is a symptom and replacing it without asking why is the mistake. These fuses do not fail with age; they fail because the regulator's winding has shorted, the harness has chafed to earth, or the driver stage has failed short. A replacement fuse that blows immediately confirms a short, and one that lasts is worth watching rather than trusting.
Measure the regulator's winding resistance before fitting a new fuse. A reading well below specification is a shorted coil and is the cause. Check what else shares the fuse while you are there: many of these circuits feed several components, so an apparently unrelated fault elsewhere on the same fuse is the better clue to which one is dragging it down.
Typically an easy fix. Often worth checking before paying anyone to look.
