Occupant classification system not recalibrated
The passenger seat's weight-sensing system left un-zeroed after work that disturbed it. The system decides whether the passenger airbag deploys and how hard, so it must know what an empty seat weighs — and that reference changes whenever the seat is removed, refitted, re-covered, or has a heater or accessory added.
The signature is a passenger airbag warning that appeared immediately after seat work, with the seat itself functioning perfectly.
The fix is a procedure rather than a part, run with the seat empty and nothing resting on it, and it is one of the most commonly skipped steps in interior repair. A replacement seat or a fitted seat cover both require it, and until it is done the car is making a restraint decision from a reference that no longer describes the seat it has.
