Brilliance BM15L (BM family, 1.5 and 1.6)
1.5 L · inline-4 · naturally aspirated · petrol · 2012–present
Also known as: bm15l, bm15, brilliance 1.5, bm16bl
Brilliance's 1.5 four — in the H230 and H330.
It is derived from Mitsubishi's 4A91, and the catalogue's own rows record it. That is the useful route into it: mitsubishi-4a9 in this catalogue describes the architecture, the chain and the variable valve timing, and its material applies where searching BM15L returns nothing at all.
Derived is not identical, and the difference matters for parts rather than for diagnosis — engine management, ancillaries and emissions equipment are Brilliance's.
Its complaints are the small-engine set: a carboned throttle body giving a hunting idle, ignition coils that fail one at a time, and a coolant temperature sensor that ruins economy quietly. Documentation outside China is essentially nonexistent.
Cars fitted with this engine
2 generations, across 1 make. From the authored catalogue — an absent car means the catalogue has not reached it, not that the engine was never fitted.
Information, not instruction
CarGeek is a reference, not a service manual. Its pages are written from public sources and from what other people have found, never from a manufacturer's own service information, so they can be wrong or incomplete for your particular vehicle. Some of what they describe carries real risk: high voltage, fuel under pressure, stored energy, hot and moving parts.
Have anything you intend to act on checked by a trained person against the manufacturer's own procedure for your vehicle. Nothing here replaces that procedure.

Nothing posted about this yet. Whatever you found is worth writing down — even a dead end saves someone the same afternoon.
What makes one worth reading:
- The car — make, model, year and engine. The same fault behaves differently on each.
- What you measured, not only what you replaced.
- What actually fixed it — or that nothing did, which is worth knowing too.
