Stellantis' 3.0 twin-turbocharged straight-six — the Hurricane — in the Wagoneer and the Ram 1500.

It is the engine replacing the HEMI V8, and that is the framing that matters to anybody working on one: two fewer cylinders, two turbochargers, direct injection, and a chain where the V8 had a cam-in-block and a reputation built over twenty years. None of that reputation transfers.

It is too new for a settled long-term record, and saying so is more useful than repeating early reports. What can be said comes from the design: intake-valve carbon is expected at mileage on a direct-injected engine, and the turbochargers' life tracks oil condition on an engine making this much power per litre.

A straight six is inherently balanced, which is why it sounds and behaves as it does and why it fits where a V8 did without needing balance shafts.

The eTorque badge on some of these cars is a mild-hybrid system, not a version of this engine — a belt-driven starter-generator and a small battery. Start, stop and charge complaints belong to that system rather than to the engine.
