Land Rover's badge for its transverse 2.0 turbocharged petrol — on the Freelander 2, the Evoque and the Discovery Sport.

It is a badge and not an engine code, and the distinction matters because two entirely different engines have worn it: the earlier cars use a Ford EcoBoost-derived unit and the later ones a JLR Ingenium. Parts, service intervals and failure patterns differ between them, so the badge alone is not enough to order anything.

What it does tell you reliably is worth having, which is why this page exists rather than a refusal: petrol, two litres, four cylinders, turbocharged, mounted transversely, and roughly 240 to 290 horsepower. That rules out most of the range at a glance.

SD4 is the diesel badge in the same position and has its own page. Si4 and SD4 are the one Land Rover badge pair that reliably separates fuel — Ingenium does not, which is why it is refused as a designation here.

Find the engine code before diagnosing. It is on the block and in the VIN decode, and it is the difference between reading about a Ford engine and reading about a JLR one.
