Nissan NA20 (NA family, 1.6 and 2.0)
2.0 L · inline-4 · naturally aspirated · petrol · 1986–present
Also known as: na20s, na20, na16, na-series
Nissan's NA20 — a plain two-litre four for light commercials, in the D21 and D22 pickups and the vans beside them.
It is a deliberately unambitious engine. Single overhead camshaft, two valves per cylinder, carburettor or simple injection — built for a working vehicle in markets where a scan tool was not assumed. Almost nothing about it is electronic, which makes diagnosis mechanical and cheap.
It is closely related to the CA and shares much with the KA that replaced it, which is the useful route in: KA24 material is plentiful and a good deal of it transfers.
⚑ It was never sold in most Western markets, so English-language material describes the KA and the Z instead. A Navara fitted with one is usually an import, and the parts question follows from that rather than from the engine.
Its reputation is for indifference to neglect at a low output, and survivors are generally tired rather than faulty.

Information, not instruction
CarGeek is a reference, not a service manual. Its pages are written from public sources and from what other people have found, never from a manufacturer's own service information, so they can be wrong or incomplete for your particular vehicle. Some of what they describe carries real risk: high voltage, fuel under pressure, stored energy, hot and moving parts.
Have anything you intend to act on checked by a trained person against the manufacturer's own procedure for your vehicle. Nothing here replaces that procedure.

What makes one worth reading:
- The car — make, model, year and engine. The same fault behaves differently on each.
- What you measured, not only what you replaced.
- What actually fixed it — or that nothing did, which is worth knowing too.
