Trailer or towing system warning
A warning about the towing system, usually appearing the moment something is plugged into the socket. Modern vehicles do far more than pass current to the trailer's lamps: the car detects the connection, extends stability control over the extra mass, and on many vehicles disables the rear parking sensors. What this usually means
Modern vehicles do far more than pass current to a trailer's lamps. The car detects the connection, extends stability control over the extra mass, adjusts the lighting strategy, and on many vehicles disables the rear parking sensors. So a fault here can be reported by the towing module, the body module or the stability system, and the lamp does not say which.
The consequence worth knowing is that the fault most often lies in the trailer or the connector rather than in the car. The vehicle measures the current drawn by each trailer lamp circuit, so it detects a failed bulb the driver cannot see, a corroded pin, or a chafed cable in the trailer's own loom — and reports it as a vehicle warning.
