Also known as: af50-8, af508, aisin af50, gm 8-speed transverse aisin
Aisin's transverse eight-speed for General Motors — in the Buick LaCrosse and the Cadillac XT5.
GM built its own transverse nine-speed at the same time, so these two models sat beside cars with a 9T50 and nothing on either says which is fitted. A ratio count is the tell, and the parts and procedures do not overlap.
Its recurring complaint is a hesitation or a shunt at low speed, particularly rolling back onto the throttle in traffic — the transmission deciding between two nearby ratios. It responds to adaptation and to software far more often than to parts, and both GM and Aisin issued transmission control updates for it.
Where genuine faults appear it is the valve body and its solenoids, presenting electrically rather than by slipping.
The fluid is Aisin's own specification and not a GM Dexron, which is the mistake a workshop reading the badge rather than the transmission would make — the same trap as the Hyundai gearbox in a Jeep.

2 generations. Only where a source names the model and the generation together — a gearbox is documented as a product far more often than as a fitment, so this list is deliberately shorter than the truth.

Information, not instruction
CarGeek is a reference, not a service manual. Its pages are written from public sources and from what other people have found, never from a manufacturer's own service information, so they can be wrong or incomplete for your particular vehicle. Some of what they describe carries real risk: high voltage, fuel under pressure, stored energy, hot and moving parts.
Have anything you intend to act on checked by a trained person against the manufacturer's own procedure for your vehicle. Nothing here replaces that procedure.

What makes one worth reading:
- The car — make, model, year and engine. The same fault behaves differently on each.
- What you measured, not only what you replaced.
- What actually fixed it — or that nothing did, which is worth knowing too.
