Buick Skylark
A compact front-drive saloon on GM's N-body, sharing everything mechanical with the Oldsmobile Achieva and Pontiac Grand Am of the same years. The engine decides the diagnosis and the two are unusually different: the 2.3 Quad 4 is a twin-cam four with a distinct head-gasket history and a very different idle character, while the 3.1 and 3300 V6s are ordinary pushrod engines. From 1996 the 2.4 Twin Cam replaces the Quad 4 and is the more durable of the two. All of them drive through a 4T60-E.

The 1996 facelift is substantial — new body, new 2.4 Twin Cam, revised electronics — so a 1995 and a 1997 car share less than the badge suggests.
