Chery Omoda 5

The crossover launched under Chery's Omoda sub-brand and sold as a Chery in most export markets, which is worth knowing because parts and documentation appear under both names. It uses the 1.5 and 1.6 turbo ACTECO engines with a dual-clutch gearbox, and that combination is where its complaints concentrate: clutch-temperature and actuator-position codes after sustained stop-start traffic, which read as a failure and are usually a duty-cycle and adaptation question. The electric version has an entirely separate high-voltage fault tree. This is a heavily networked car with a large touchscreen controlling climate and driver assistance, so module wake and battery condition matter more than the age of the car suggests.

Information, not instruction

CarGeek is a reference, not a service manual. Its pages are written from public sources and from what other people have found, never from a manufacturer's own service information, so they can be wrong or incomplete for your particular vehicle. Some of what they describe carries real risk: high voltage, fuel under pressure, stored energy, hot and moving parts.

Have anything you intend to act on checked by a trained person against the manufacturer's own procedure for your vehicle. Nothing here replaces that procedure.

What makes one worth reading:

  • The car — make, model, year and engine. The same fault behaves differently on each.
  • What you measured, not only what you replaced.
  • What actually fixed it — or that nothing did, which is worth knowing too.
