Vehicle
Ford Probe
The front-drive coupé, and it is a Mazda underneath — the GE platform, the FS four and the KL V6 all come from the MX-6 and the 626 it was built alongside, with a Ford body on top. That is the single most useful fact about it, because the engine and transmission material worth reading is written under Mazda's names and there is a great deal more of it. The KL V6 in the Probe GT is the engine most of these carry and the one that brings them in: it is a quad-cam design in a bay that was never generous, so timing belt work is the job that dominates ownership. The first-generation Probe of 1988-1992 is a different car on the older GD platform, and is outside what this page covers.

Service information
Information, not instruction
CarGeek is a reference, not a service manual. Its pages are written from public sources and from what other people have found, never from a manufacturer's own service information, so they can be wrong or incomplete for your particular vehicle. Some of what they describe carries real risk: high voltage, fuel under pressure, stored energy, hot and moving parts.
Have anything you intend to act on checked by a trained person against the manufacturer's own procedure for your vehicle. Nothing here replaces that procedure.

Nothing posted about this yet. Whatever you found is worth writing down — even a dead end saves someone the same afternoon.
What makes one worth reading:
- The car — make, model, year and engine. The same fault behaves differently on each.
- What you measured, not only what you replaced.
- What actually fixed it — or that nothing did, which is worth knowing too.
