Vehicle
Kia Carnival
The full-size minivan, sold as the Sedona in several markets — search both, because the written diagnosis is split across the two names. The 2.2 CRDi at family and taxi mileage is the European and Korean population, and its timing chain and the balance-shaft assembly behind it are the two items worth establishing before believing a rattle or a correlation code. Powered sliding doors and a powered tailgate account for a large share of what actually gets scanned.
Generations
-
First generation 1998–2005
Sold as the Sedona in North America and the United Kingdom, and facelifted in 2001 as the Carnival II. Its 2.5 V6 is not a Hyundai engine at all but a Rover KV6 built under licence in Korea, which is where the documentation for it lives; the 2.9 diesel is Kia's own J3, turbocharged at first and common-rail from the facelift.

Second generation 2005–2014
The VQ, also sold as the Grand Carnival, the Sedona and, for three years, the Hyundai Entourage. Two different diesels wear the CRDi badge here — the carried-over 2.9 J3 to 2009 and the chain-driven 2.2 R from 2010 — and they share almost nothing, so establish which one is in front of you before reading any fault pattern.

Service information
Information, not instruction
CarGeek is a reference, not a service manual. Its pages are written from public sources and from what other people have found, never from a manufacturer's own service information, so they can be wrong or incomplete for your particular vehicle. Some of what they describe carries real risk: high voltage, fuel under pressure, stored energy, hot and moving parts.
Have anything you intend to act on checked by a trained person against the manufacturer's own procedure for your vehicle. Nothing here replaces that procedure.

Nothing posted about this yet. Whatever you found is worth writing down — even a dead end saves someone the same afternoon.
What makes one worth reading:
- The car — make, model, year and engine. The same fault behaves differently on each.
- What you measured, not only what you replaced.
- What actually fixed it — or that nothing did, which is worth knowing too.
