SAIPA Pride

For decades the most numerous car in Iran, derived from the Kia Pride (itself a Ford Festiva design) and sold in saloon, hatch and van bodies under a family of numeric names. Mechanically minimal — a small SOHC four with basic injection on later cars — so the diagnostic path is short, and the corpus's universal causes (connectors, earths, supply voltage) resolve a large share of its codes.

The engine is Mazda's B3: 1,323 cc, 71 by 83.6 mm, eight valves, one overhead camshaft. en.wikipedia's Mazda B-engine list gives those dimensions and puts the engine in the Kia Pride; fa.wikipedia names it for the Iranian cars directly. Which half of the car the documentation describes is the useful part — Mazda and Kia material describes the block, and the injection does not come from either of them. It was carburetted until 1384 and multi-point injected afterwards, and the injected engine is not the stronger one: the same 63 hp, reached at 5,200 rather than 5,500, with 2 Nm more torque. fa.wikipedia credits Siemens and Sagem with the conversion, on one source, so expect the management and its wiring to be documented in Persian if at all.

Generations

  • First generation 1993–present

A licensed Kia Pride, produced in Iran for three decades — the reference population for the country's oldest injection systems, and widely converted to CNG.

    Engines
    • 1.3 SOHC — petrol · 47–53 kW (63–71 hp) · 103–110 Nm (76–81 lb-ft)
    • 1.3 bi-fuel — CNG bi-fuel · very widely converted — the gas side must be considered alongside the petrol one. No output is written because no source rates the engine on gas. car.ir is the only site with bi-fuel Pride pages and its two give 105 Nm at 3,000 rpm against the petrol trims' 103 at 2,500 and 2,800 — MORE torque at a HIGHER peak speed, which a gas-mode derate is not, so those pages are rating some other petrol tune rather than the gas side. khodrobank has no bi-fuel Pride page: three of its 636 pages are bi-fuel, for the Samand LX EF7 and two Peugeots, and those are precisely the cars whose rows in this catalogue do carry a gas-mode figure

Service information

Information, not instruction

CarGeek is a reference, not a service manual. Its pages are written from public sources and from what other people have found, never from a manufacturer's own service information, so they can be wrong or incomplete for your particular vehicle. Some of what they describe carries real risk: high voltage, fuel under pressure, stored energy, hot and moving parts.

Have anything you intend to act on checked by a trained person against the manufacturer's own procedure for your vehicle. Nothing here replaces that procedure.

Nothing posted about this yet. Whatever you found is worth writing down — even a dead end saves someone the same afternoon.

What makes one worth reading:

  • The car — make, model, year and engine. The same fault behaves differently on each.
  • What you measured, not only what you replaced.
  • What actually fixed it — or that nothing did, which is worth knowing too.
