The glow pin that ignites the fuel in a fuel-fired auxiliary heater, worn out or failed. It is a consumable with a defined service life rather than a component expected to last the vehicle's — every start cycle wears it, so failure at a high cycle count is expected rather than a defect.

The heater attempts to start and fails to light, and the module reports no flame detected. The metering pump will tick normally throughout, which is the useful distinction: fuel is arriving and nothing is igniting it. After several failed attempts the unit locks itself out, which is correct behaviour and needs a deliberate reset rather than a battery disconnection.

Soot accelerates its failure, and soot comes from short run cycles that never reach full temperature. So a glow pin that has failed early argues for how the heater is being used, and cleaning the combustion chamber at the same time is part of the repair — a new pin into a heavily sooted burner has a short life.
