The ignition module and the pickup that tells it when to fire — a pairing that matters because the module is usually blamed and the pickup usually fails. The pickup is a magnetic or Hall sensor watching a toothed wheel; the module is the switching electronics acting on it. A module with a bad input behaves exactly like a module with a bad output.

Heat is the common thread in both failures. These parts sit on or near the engine, and a marginal semiconductor junction or a pickup coil whose insulation has degraded works cold and fails hot — which produces the characteristic complaint of an engine that runs perfectly until it is warmed through, then cuts out and restarts after twenty minutes standing. A fault that goes away while you fetch a meter is this pattern, not an intermittent connection.

Measure the pickup's output before replacing the module. Its resistance should be within the specified range and stable when warm, and its waveform should be clean at cranking speed — a signal that collapses in amplitude as the engine heats is the pickup, whatever the code names. Air gap matters too: a pickup that has shifted on its mounting or a reluctor wheel with a damaged tooth gives a signal the module cannot use, with both parts in perfect condition.
