A 1.3-litre turbocharged petrol four developed jointly by the Renault-Nissan alliance and Mercedes-Benz, and one of the clearest cases in this catalogue of a single engine with two identities: Renault and Dacia sell it as the 1.3 TCe (H5Ht), Nissan as the HR13DDT, and Mercedes-Benz as the M282 in the A-Class, CLA and GLA. This entry carries no single designer for that reason — the same choice the BMW/PSA Prince required.
That matters practically. A Mercedes A 200 and a Dacia Sandero share an engine, so a fault documented under any one of those designations applies to the others, and the Renault-badged cars are by far the better documented of the three.
Technically it uses bore coating rather than liners, direct injection, and cylinder deactivation on the middle two cylinders under light load. That last feature is worth knowing before diagnosing an intermittent misfire, because the fault may present only in the deactivated state or only outside it. It replaced the 1.2 TCe and does not inherit that engine's oil-consumption reputation.
