Volkswagen Touran
The compact MPV on Golf architecture, and one of the most common diesel family cars in Europe — which means a very large number of them carry the 1.9 and 2.0 TDI pump-injector engines, whose faults are worth knowing before reading a code. The unit injectors are cam-driven and their electrical faults present as cylinder-specific misfires; the camshaft and its followers wear at a known rate on the BKD-family engines and take the injector timing with them; and the EGR cooler and inlet manifold flap motor foul heavily enough to set flow and position codes on cars in good order otherwise. Later 2.0 TDI common-rail cars move the faults to the particulate filter and the additive system on those markets that use one.
