Aftermarket fitting obstructing the radar sensor
Something added to the car sitting in a sensor's field of view — most often a towbar, but bike racks, cycle carriers, number-plate surrounds and metallic bumper protectors all do it. Metal reflects radar straight back, and a permanently-mounted towball sits directly in the rear sensors' view.
Nothing has failed. The system is reporting an obstacle that is genuinely there, and the fix is configuration rather than repair: many vehicles have a towbar setting that tells the parking and blind-spot systems to expect it, and a bar fitted without enabling it produces constant false alarms and eventually stored codes.
The timing is the diagnosis — a fault that began when an accessory was fitted has explained itself.
