Cause

Blown fuse supplying the fuel pump

The fuel pump's fuse blown, so the pump does not run. The result is a complete no-start with a healthy engine — it cranks normally, has spark, and has no fuel pressure at all, which is a quick and definitive thing to measure.

A fuse is a symptom rather than a fault. These do not fail with age; a pump drawing above its rating from worn brushes or a seizing motor takes them, as does a chafed supply wire. Measure the pump's current draw before fitting a replacement — a pump pulling well above specification is the cause, and a new fuse into it blows again. Listen for the pump priming with the ignition on: silence with a good fuse moves the search to the relay or the wiring.

Typically an easy fix. Often worth checking before paying anyone to look.

Information, not instruction

CarGeek is a reference, not a service manual. Its pages are written from public sources and from what other people have found, never from a manufacturer's own service information, so they can be wrong or incomplete for your particular vehicle. Some of what they describe carries real risk: high voltage, fuel under pressure, stored energy, hot and moving parts.

Have anything you intend to act on checked by a trained person against the manufacturer's own procedure for your vehicle. Nothing here replaces that procedure.

What makes one worth reading:

  • The car — make, model, year and engine. The same fault behaves differently on each.
  • What you measured, not only what you replaced.
  • What actually fixed it — or that nothing did, which is worth knowing too.
