Failed dashboard lamp
A warning lamp on the instrument panel that can no longer illuminate. Modules monitor their own lamp circuits, so the failure is detected and reported even though nothing about the vehicle's function changes.
The real consequence is that a warning cannot be given — the lamp is how a system tells the driver it has degraded, and a dead lamp makes the stored code the only remaining evidence. On older clusters it is a bulb; on modern ones an LED or its driver inside the cluster, which usually means the cluster. An LED fitted in place of a filament bulb produces the same code by drawing too little current to be detected, so check what has been changed before assuming a failure.
Typically an easy fix. Often worth checking before paying anyone to look.
