Cause
Incorrect oxygen sensor fitted
A sensor that physically fits and is electrically wrong for the vehicle. A close-enough sensor reads plausibly and wrongly, often without setting a code of its own, so the engine runs on a slightly wrong mixture indefinitely. Wideband sensors carry a calibration resistor in the connector, which is why part numbers are not interchangeable even where the plug is.
Typically a moderate job.
