Incorrect pickup air gap
A magnetic position sensor mounted at the wrong distance from its reluctor. These sensors generate a signal by proximity, so the gap is a specification rather than a preference — too wide and the signal is weak at cranking speed, too narrow and the sensor can be struck by a wheel that has any runout.
A weak signal fails where it matters most. The engine cranks and will not start, or starts and cuts out, because the module cannot resolve the pattern at low speed while it manages perfectly once running. A no-start with a signal that appears at speed is the signature. It is nearly always a fitting error, so suspect it immediately after a sensor replacement — check the gap against specification with a feeler gauge rather than assuming a sensor seated fully is a sensor set correctly.
