Open circuit in shutoff valve wiring
A break in the wiring to a fuel or intake shutoff valve, so the module commands it and sees no current. The distinction from a general valve wiring fault is which valve, and it matters because a shutoff valve is a safety-relevant device — it exists to stop fuel or air flow on demand, and a module unable to confirm it will act conservatively.
A shutoff valve that cannot be commanded prevents the engine running rather than degrading it. On a diesel the fuel shutoff stops the engine; on an intake shutoff it closes the tract to stop it cleanly. So the complaint is often a no-start or a run-on, not a performance fault — which is why an open circuit here looks like a fuelling or immobiliser problem and gets diagnosed as one.
Test at the valve connector to split the circuit in one measurement. Voltage present at the plug means the fault is the winding; absent means it is upstream, in the harness, a fuse or the driver. These valves often sit low on the engine or near the tank, so inspect where the loom passes a bracket or crosses a heat source first — the break is usually mechanical and visible once the loom is opened.
