Seized air cleaner inlet flap

The flap selecting between cold outside air and warm air drawn from near the exhaust, seized. The system exists to keep intake air within a workable band — warm for cold-weather driveability, cold for density when hot.

Which position it seizes in decides the season it bites. Stuck warm, the engine draws hot air permanently, costing power in summer and tripping intake temperature checks; stuck cold, cold-weather driveability suffers and throttle body icing becomes possible. The flap's pivot is what seizes, sitting in the airflow collecting dust for years. Check the flap moves freely by hand before condemning the actuator — a seized flap with a healthy actuator and a failed actuator with a free flap give the same code.

Typically an easy fix. Often worth checking before paying anyone to look.
