Mahindra's 1.2 diesel three — 1,198 cc, common rail with multi-hole injectors, turbocharged, built at Chakan from 2016 until 2020. Fitted to one model only, the KUV100, and not carried over to anything after it, which is the most practical thing to know about owning one.

⚑ It shares a car and a cylinder count with a petrol engine and nothing else. The KUV100's G80 is a 1,197 cc naturally aspirated port-injected petrol from a family that is still in production; this is a separate programme that ended with BS4. Three cylinders is the fact that changes the diagnosis. A single-cylinder misfire is a third of the engine, so it arrives as a shake rather than as a stumble and is often reported as a mounting or a driveline fault. On a diesel that shake is easy to read as a mounting failure, and the engine's own idle makes the distinction harder rather than easier.

Injector return flow is the fastest route through a rough-running case, as it is on any common-rail diesel, and it is worth reaching for early here because almost nothing else about this engine is documented independently. It is a small-displacement diesel three with no sibling in another manufacturer's range, so there is no transferable literature the way there is for the Peugeot-descended engines beside it — that gap is exactly what community write-ups attached to this node exist to fill.
