Mahindra KUV100
The smallest vehicle Mahindra has sold in this catalogue and the only front-wheel-drive one of its era, which makes it the outlier in a range built around ladder frames and transfer cases — nothing from the Bolero or the Scorpio applies to its chassis at all.
It is also the debut of the mFalcon engine family, a three-cylinder unit designed for this car in petrol (G80) and diesel (D75) forms. Three cylinders is the fact that changes the diagnosis: a single-cylinder misfire is a third of the engine, so it presents as a shake rather than a stumble, and the balancer arrangement that makes the layout tolerable produces noise complaints that are not faults.
Because the family appears in no other model, specialist knowledge is exceptionally thin — thinner than for any other engine in the Mahindra range — which raises the value of community write-ups attached to this node and lowers the value of general Mahindra advice applied to it.
