Isuzu G200 / G161

Isuzu's G-series petrol four, in the first Trooper, the Faster pickup and the Geminis of the period.

⚑ It is the ancestor of a great deal that is not badged Isuzu. General Motors used Isuzu as its small-engine and light-truck partner for two decades, so the same engine and its descendants turn up in Chevrolet LUVs, Holdens and Opels — and a search under any of those badges finds a different set of material about the same hardware.

It is a belt-driven overhead-cam design from the early 1970s, which was advanced for its moment and is entirely conventional now. Carburetted through most of its life, with simple injection at the end.

Nothing about it is electronic, so diagnosis is compression, ignition timing and fuelling, and a scan tool has nothing to read.
