Land Rover SD4 (badge, not an engine)

Land Rover's badge for its transverse four-cylinder diesel — on the Freelander 2, the Evoque and the Discovery Sport.

It is a badge over two different engines. The 2.2 is a PSA DW12, which is the single most widely borrowed diesel in this catalogue and has a page here carrying twenty years of European fleet experience. The later 2.0 is a JLR Ingenium. Searching SD4 returns almost nothing; searching DW12 returns everything.

What the badge does tell you: diesel, four cylinders, turbocharged, transverse, and — on the higher outputs — sequentially turbocharged, which is where the SD differs from the single-turbo TD4. A boost-pressure complaint on a twin-turbo installation is a different diagnosis from one on a single, and the badge is what tells you which you are standing in front of.
