BMW i3
The carbon-bodied electric city car, and structurally unlike anything else in this catalogue: a carbon-fibre passenger cell on an aluminium chassis, rear-motor and rear-wheel drive. Two things change its diagnosis. The REx range extender is a 647cc motorcycle-derived twin that drives a generator only and never the wheels — so it has emissions monitors and fuel-system codes on a car most people treat as a pure electric. And body repair is a bonded-composite process, which puts structural damage outside ordinary panel work.
