Hyundai Ioniq

The 2016 liftback, and not the Ioniq 5 or Ioniq 6 — Hyundai turned the name into a sub-brand afterwards, so a scan tool or a parts lookup that resolves "Ioniq" to a 2022 E-GMP car is on the wrong vehicle entirely. This one was sold as three separate powertrains on one body: a 1.6 Kappa hybrid, a plug-in hybrid, and a battery-electric with no engine at all, which is what decides whether a P0-range code on it means anything. The electric car's pack grew from 28 to 38.3 kWh for 2020, so the year decides the hardware and the charging behaviour.

Generations

  • AE 2016–2022

Hybrid and plug-in cars use a six-speed dual-clutch rather than a planetary hybrid transaxle, so their gearbox faults read like a manual's clutch faults, not like a Prius's.

Service information

Information, not instruction

CarGeek is a reference, not a service manual. Its pages are written from public sources and from what other people have found, never from a manufacturer's own service information, so they can be wrong or incomplete for your particular vehicle. Some of what they describe carries real risk: high voltage, fuel under pressure, stored energy, hot and moving parts.

Have anything you intend to act on checked by a trained person against the manufacturer's own procedure for your vehicle. Nothing here replaces that procedure.

Nothing posted about this yet. Whatever you found is worth writing down — even a dead end saves someone the same afternoon.

What makes one worth reading:

  • The car — make, model, year and engine. The same fault behaves differently on each.
  • What you measured, not only what you replaced.
  • What actually fixed it — or that nothing did, which is worth knowing too.
