Iran Khodro Peykan
The car that motorised Iran, built from 1967 to 2005 as a licensed Hillman Hunter and then continued as a pickup — so British Rootes Group parts and manuals genuinely describe much of it, which is not obvious and is the most useful thing to know. Almost every example is carburetted with contact-breaker or early electronic ignition, so it sets no fault codes and a scan tool has nothing to read: diagnosis is compression, ignition timing, points and carburettor. Later cars fitted a Peugeot-derived engine with injection and do read. Given the age of the fleet, corroded earths and a worn distributor account for a large share of running complaints.

- 1.6 four-cylinder — OHV · petrol · the pushrod engine Iran Khodro built as the OHV, Rootes-derived and made by Mega Motor from 1995. No torque *for the Paykan*: all seven versions of the Rootes Arrow article and all seventeen of the Paykan's were swept and none states one. **That closed set was closed over the wrong seeds, which is worth recording rather than quietly fixing** — en.wikipedia's Peugeot Roa gives this same engine 61 kW and 135 Nm at 3,000, and it was never swept because nothing pointed at it until the Roa's generation resolved to an article. The figure is withheld here and written on the Bardo, because car.ir states 135 Nm for the Bardo directly while nothing states any figure for the engine in a Paykan; carrying a sibling model's number onto this row would be the attribution the 1.8 below already declines
- 1.8 four-cylinder — XM · petrol · the Peugeot 504's own 1.8, fitted to a Paykan body from 1990 until the stock of French engines ran out. No torque, and the donor route was considered and refused rather than overlooked: fr.wikipedia's Peugeot 504 carries a full `Couple maximal` row — 137 Nm at 3,000, 142 at 2,500, 160, 168, 207 and 216 — so a figure for the French engine is reachable, and carrying it onto a licensee's row is the attribution this catalogue already declines on the Tata Sumo, whose XD88 row withholds a torque for exactly the same reason. What is missing is a figure for the engine as it was fitted here, and none of the seventeen Paykan articles states one. The DESIGNATION is a separate question and it resolved: en.wikipedia's Paykan infobox names this engine outright as a `1796 cc I4 PSA XM 8-valve engine`, and fr.wikipedia's Peugeot 504 motorisations table gives PSA's 1,796 cm3 as `XM7` on the carburettor and `XM-KF6` on the injection. Two trees, one family, stated of this car by the first of them. The row carries the FAMILY rather than `XM7` because no source says which member reached Iran, and a catalogue that prints `XM7` would be asserting the carburettor variant on a car sold both ways
