Iran Khodro Peykan

The car that motorised Iran, built from 1967 to 2005 as a licensed Hillman Hunter and then continued as a pickup — so British Rootes Group parts and manuals genuinely describe much of it, which is not obvious and is the most useful thing to know. Almost every example is carburetted with contact-breaker or early electronic ignition, so it sets no fault codes and a scan tool has nothing to read: diagnosis is compression, ignition timing, points and carburettor. Later cars fitted a Peugeot-derived engine with injection and do read. Given the age of the fleet, corroded earths and a worn distributor account for a large share of running complaints.
