Lada Granta
The cheapest new car in its market for most of its life, and the volume model of the range. Mechanically simple by design: naturally aspirated eight- or sixteen-valve fours, a five-speed manual on most cars, and no turbocharging or direct injection anywhere. The distinction that matters for a timing-belt failure is interference: the sixteen-valve VAZ-21126 bends valves when the belt breaks and the eight-valve VAZ-11183 does not, which changes what a no-start after a snapped belt means.
