Lada Priora
The saloon, hatchback and estate that developed from the Samara family, and the model where Lada's own electronic engine management became universal — which is the useful boundary, because everything before it is carburetted and reads nothing. The 21126 sixteen-valve engine is the one most carry, and the fact that decides a repair is that it is an interference design: a snapped timing belt bends valves, and the belt and its tensioner roller are the most consequential service item on the car. Beyond that the recurring faults are electrical rather than mechanical — the mass airflow sensor, the idle-speed regulator on earlier cars, and earth points behind the engine that corrode and produce unrelated readings.
