Vehicle
Land Rover Discovery
The seven-seat four-wheel drive, sold as LR3 and LR4 in North America. Air suspension and a two-speed transfer case are both standard on most versions, and both are systems with their own sensors and stored faults — a ride-height or drivetrain complaint belongs to one of them long before it belongs to the engine.
Generations
-
Series I 1989–1998
Range Rover Classic underpinnings with the Rover V8 and the Tdi four. Engine management is what dates one of these: twin SU carburettors until 1990, Lucas 14CUX injection after, and the 1996–98 North American cars move to GEMS — the first Discovery that answers OBD-II at all. The 1994 facelift swaps the 200Tdi for the 300Tdi and the 3.5 V8 for the 3.9, and brings the stronger R380 manual.

Series II 1998–2004
The Td5 five-cylinder replaces the Tdi, and its injector harness chafing through inside the rocker cover is the signature electrical fault. ACE hydraulic anti-roll and self-levelling air springs arrive as options, each storing its own faults, and the early cars ship without the centre differential lock linkage — reinstated at the 2002 facelift once traction control alone proved not to be a substitute.

Information, not instruction
CarGeek is a reference, not a service manual. Its pages are written from public sources and from what other people have found, never from a manufacturer's own service information, so they can be wrong or incomplete for your particular vehicle. Some of what they describe carries real risk: high voltage, fuel under pressure, stored energy, hot and moving parts.
Have anything you intend to act on checked by a trained person against the manufacturer's own procedure for your vehicle. Nothing here replaces that procedure.

Nothing posted about this yet. Whatever you found is worth writing down — even a dead end saves someone the same afternoon.
What makes one worth reading:
- The car — make, model, year and engine. The same fault behaves differently on each.
- What you measured, not only what you replaced.
- What actually fixed it — or that nothing did, which is worth knowing too.
