Tata DICOR (badge, not an engine)

Tata's badge for its common-rail diesels — on the Safari, the Sumo and the Indica.

The name says Direct Injection Common Rail and nothing about which engine. In this catalogue's own rows it sits on two unrelated units: the 2.2 is a PSA DW12, which has a page here and a very large body of European experience behind it, and the 1.3 is derived from Fiat's Multijet, which has its own page too. Neither of them is findable by searching DICOR.

So the badge's practical value is narrow but real: it tells you the engine is a modern common-rail diesel rather than one of Tata's earlier indirect-injection units, which is a genuine dividing line in what can go wrong and how it is diagnosed.

On either engine the modern-diesel rules apply. A particulate filter blocked by short journeys, an EGR valve carboned shut, and injector seals are what bring these in — and a rising oil level on the dipstick is fuel dilution from failed regenerations, not a servicing error.

Establish the displacement first, because it is what selects which of the two pages to read.
