Lada Samara
The first front-wheel-drive Lada, developed with Porsche assistance, and the family that ran for twenty-five years — so an enormous number survive. The injection boundary is the single most important thing to establish: early cars are carburetted with contact or electronic ignition and set nothing at all, while the 2114 and 2115 of the 2000s carry Bosch or January engine management and read normally over a standard connector. The engines are interference designs and the timing belt governs everything. The recurring faults on the injected cars are the mass airflow sensor and the idle regulator; on the carburetted ones they are the carburettor's own jets and the fuel pump diaphragm.
