Deeply discharged after long-term parking
A traction battery drained below its operating floor by nothing more than time. Packs self-discharge slowly, and a hybrid parked for months — a season abroad, a probate car, an auction purchase that sat in a compound — sinks past the point from which the vehicle can recover itself. Running the tank dry and pressing on does the same thing faster: with no engine, the pack does all the work until it cannot.
The history is the diagnosis, which is why volunteering it matters: the same codes read as a failing battery on a car with no story and as an explained event on one that sat all winter. Recovery varies — some vehicles wake after a drive, some need a dealer-level pack charge — and repeated deep discharges do permanent harm, so the prevention is the real advice: never run a hybrid's tank dry, and never park one for months without a drive.
