Ride height sensor out of adjustment
The linkage that tells the car how the body is sitting relative to the suspension, bent, corroded, disconnected or refitted at the wrong length. It is a cheap plastic arm doing an important job, and it reports an attitude the car is not actually in.
Headlamp aim is the consequence people meet. Automatic levelling keeps the beam out of oncoming eyes as the car squats and dives, so a false height reading aims the lights wrongly — too low and you cannot see, too high and you dazzle other drivers and fail a roadworthiness test. On air-sprung cars it also misleads the levelling itself, leaving the vehicle sitting low or unevenly.
Accident repair, suspension work and a snapped link are the usual triggers, and the part is inexpensive when it is identified rather than worked around.
