Seized caliper slide pins
The pins on which a sliding caliper moves, seized so the caliper cannot centre itself. A sliding caliper has pistons on one side only and must slide to press the outer pad — so seized pins mean the outer pad barely works.
The signature is uneven pad wear: the inner pad worn to nothing and the outer nearly new, which is unmistakable once the wheel is off. The vehicle pulls under braking and that corner runs hot. The wheel speed effect is what reaches the diagnostics — a dragging corner turns slightly slower and the stability systems read it as slip. The pins seize from failed rubber boots letting water in, so replacing the pins without the boots repeats it, and the boots are the part usually left out of a pad kit.
