What to do
Driveable, with a speedometer or cruise control that may not work. Mention any aftermarket device wired into the vehicle — trackers and alarms commonly tap this circuit and are a frequent cause.
What this code means
A fault in the road speed signal the engine module sends out to other systems. The distinction from P0500 matters: that code concerns the speed signal arriving, this one concerns the module's own output of it to the instrument cluster, cruise control or an aftermarket device.
A short in that output circuit is a common cause, and aftermarket installations are worth asking about — trackers, speed limiters, taxi meters and alarms frequently tap this wire, and an installation that has chafed or shorted produces exactly this.
