What to do

If power drops on hot days and returns after cooling, suspect the electronics' own coolant loop — ask for its pump, level and bleed to be checked specifically, and do not accept that the engine's coolant bottle answers the question. Recurrence in mild conditions means the loop has a real fault.

What this code means

The power electronics as a whole got too hot — the broader sibling of the per-inverter codes at P0A3C–P0A3E, stored when the motor electronics assembly crosses its temperature threshold without a more specific code claiming the event.

The diagnosis is the one this range has already established: the electronics have their own cooling loop, with the pump at P0A05 and its temperature sensing at P0A00, and a full engine cooling system proves nothing about it. Circulation first — pump running, level correct, no trapped air — then the small radiator's airflow, and the workload story last.

Heat is cumulative for power electronics, so repeated excursions age the inverter's switches even when each one ends in a safe derate. A recurring code here is the cheap warning; P0A78 is the expensive conclusion.

Information, not instruction

CarGeek is a reference, not a service manual. Its pages are written from public sources and from what other people have found, never from a manufacturer's own service information, so they can be wrong or incomplete for your particular vehicle. Some of what they describe carries real risk: high voltage, fuel under pressure, stored energy, hot and moving parts.

Have anything you intend to act on checked by a trained person against the manufacturer's own procedure for your vehicle. Nothing here replaces that procedure.

Nothing posted about this yet. Whatever you found is worth writing down — even a dead end saves someone the same afternoon.

What makes one worth reading:

  • The car — make, model, year and engine. The same fault behaves differently on each.
  • What you measured, not only what you replaced.
  • What actually fixed it — or that nothing did, which is worth knowing too.
