What to do

The car will usually drive. Watch the twelve-volt battery over the following days — a converter that has lost a measurement runs conservatively and may stop charging it properly. A replacement twelve-volt battery will not fix that.

What this code means

The circuit for one of the DC/DC converter's sensors is faulty.

By sensor C the DC/DC converter is being measured at three points, and that says something about what it has become.

On an early hybrid the converter was a box that kept the twelve-volt battery topped up. On a modern electric car it feeds electric power steering, brake assistance, and the modules that keep the traction system safe — so the twelve-volt system is no longer an accessory circuit, it is the layer everything else stands on. Three measurement points let the module localise a fault rather than merely detect one. One reading disagreeing with two is a sensor; all three moving together is the converter; and the pattern between them says which side of the converter the problem is on — which is the free narrowing described at P0E31.

A single sensor circuit fault does not usually stop the converter, but it removes a leg of that triangulation, so the car becomes conservative: it derates the converter rather than trusting two readings where it expects three. The visible result is the familiar one — a twelve-volt battery that is no longer being properly charged, and a flat battery days later.
