P2266: Water in Fuel Sensor A Circuit Low
What to do
The car drives normally. If a water-in-fuel warning is showing alongside this code it may be the wiring rather than actual water — but have the water trap drained anyway before assuming so. It costs nothing, and confirming there is no water is worth far more than saving the two minutes.
What this code means
The water-in-fuel sensor circuit reads below its valid range, normally a short to ground.
Worth noting which direction means what on this sensor: it detects water by conductivity, so conducting is what water looks like. A circuit shorted to ground conducts perfectly, which is why some vehicles respond to this fault by displaying a water-in-fuel warning that is not true. A warning of water accompanied by this code should still be acted on — draining the trap is free and settles whether the water is real, which is a better order than assuming the sensor is lying.
