BMW's V8 diesel — the M67 — in the 7 Series and the Range Rover L322.
It is a rare engine in expensive cars, which is most of the ownership story: specialist experience is thin even inside the dealer network, and parts are priced accordingly.
Its known items are all in the V, under the intake: the turbochargers and the EGR coolers sit between the banks, so a job that sounds routine means removing the intake system. That should be said before a price is given.
Swirl flaps in the inlet manifold wear and can come loose — a BMW diesel pattern of this era, and the consequence of one entering a cylinder is total.
In the Range Rover it is the same engine with different management, and BMW material applies where Land Rover's runs out — which is worth knowing, because the L322's BMW years are documented in two places and searched in one.
